Customizing Grids in Prolog Manager - Part II
By Steve Van Dyke, Meridian’s Prolog Product Lead

This tip is a continuation of November’s Prolog Tip of the Month. In this feature you will learn how to copy data into multiple columns and/or fields, print grid information in a spreadsheet format, and much more.

Quick Jump
Did you know you can quick jump from a grid column to its relative data entry form? This option is only available on certain grid columns. If you right click within a grid column and the quick jump is not an available option then there is no relative data entry form to jump to. Please see the following example:

  • Open the daily work journal data entry form and click on the manpower/labor tab.
  • Right click anywhere in the employee column and select quick jump. The employee setup data entry form opens.

Print Grid
To print a particular grid simply right click anywhere within the grid and select quick print grid. In some instances it may be necessary to highlight a column within the grid prior to right clicking to make the option ‘quick print grid’ available.

Copying Data within a Grid
You can copy, cut, and paste the entire contents of a grid column to another location, without having to select the individual cells. You can also copy and paste part of a column, or copy the contents of one field into several fields of a grid column simultaneously, avoiding time-consuming data entry.

To copy columns in a grid:

1.  Click the column heading of the column you want to copy. Prolog Manager highlights the column.

2.  Right-click and select Copy from the shortcut menu.

3.  Place the cursor where you want to put the text.

4.  Right-click, and select Paste on the shortcut menu. The entire contents of the column are pasted to the new location.

5.  Click Save.

To copy part of a column:

1.  Click on the first field in the section you want to copy.

2.  Hold down the SHIFT key, and click on the last field in the section you want to copy. The section you want to copy is highlighted.

3.  Right-click and select Copy from the shortcut menu.

4.  Place the cursor where you want to put the text.

5.  Right-click and select Paste from the shortcut menu. The section you selected is pasted to the new location.

To copy the contents of one field into several fields simultaneously:

1.  Highlight the contents of the field you want to copy.

2.  Right click and select Copy from the shortcut menu.

3.  Click in the first field you want to copy the contents into.

4.  Hold down the SHIFT key, and click on the last field in the section you want to copy. The section you want to copy into is highlighted.

5.  Right click and select Paste from the shortcut menu. The field you copied is pasted into the section you selected.

Using the Find Feature
You can search in a column or a whole grid for a specific word or phrase as well as the beginning of or part of a word or phrase.

To search in a grid:

1.  Right-click on a column in your grid and select Find. The Find dialog box appears.

2.  In the Find what field, type the word or phrase you need to find.

3.  In the Look In list, choose either the current column or the whole grid. The current column is shown with the name of the column in which you right-clicked. For example, if you right-clicked in the "Description" column, the Look In list displays "Description" and "Whole grid" as choices.

4.  In the Match list, you can choose what part of the word or phrase you need to match.

5.  If you need to match the case of the word or phrase, select the Match Case check box.

6.  Click Find Next to search for your word or phrase. If Prolog Manager finds a record with your word or phrase, it will select it on the grid.
