Product Tip of the Month – Prolog®Resolving Common Problems with Prolog Database ConnectionsBy Steve Van Dyke, Meridian’s Prolog Product Lead This month’s product tip will focus on some common problems and their resolutions when setting up connections to your database using the Connection Setup Wizard. Plus, see how easy it is to setup all Prolog Installs with the same Database Connections without having to manually use the Connection Setup Wizard on each individual machine. Problem: Prolog Manager hangs when clicking on List Databases Resolution 1: In the Connection Setup Wizard click Configure and verify that the TCP/IP protocol is enabled and being used as the primary protocol. Resolution 2: Verify the SQL or MSDE instance being used for Prolog is not being used by other third party software where the authentication is not mixed mode. Please see public knowledge base article 7560 on the Meridian Support Link at: http://support.meridiansystems.com Resolution 3: Try using the IP Address of the SQL Server in place of the Server Name. Resolution 4: Verify the SQL Service is running under Start – Programs – MS SQL Server or MSDE – Service Manager.
Problem: After restoring a backup of my database.bak it does not appear in the list when clicking on List Databases Resolution: Reset Permissions on all databases in Prolog Manager Administrator under the Database Menu – Reset Permissions to Default.
Quick Tip: How can I quickly setup the same connections to all Prolog Machines? Connections established using the Connection Setup Wizard are stored in the PM7Conn.ini file. Once you have setup the necessary connections on one machine you can easily configure all Prolog Machines by copying the PM7Conn.ini file in the logged on users profile at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\MPS\Prolog Manager\Version 7\Configuration folder to the same location for all other users profiles on all other machines hosting Prolog. |
