New Folder Permissions in Prolog WebSite Document Management

By William Atchison, Meridian Systems Customer Support Center Manager

This month we released Service Patch 4 for version 7.2 of Prolog Application Suite. We added new permission functionality to the Document Management module of Prolog WebSite. For more specific information, please read the tip below.

The new release of Service Patch 4 for Prolog WebSite 7.2 has a new checkbox for file permissions in Document Management. This new checkbox will apply rights from the parent folders to all subfolders and documents. There is an additional option that allows permissions to be applied only to the current folder; a message box provides this option. This new functionality was intended to ease the process of applying permissions in Document Management.

  • You must have folder permissions to access the files within a folder—even if you have rights to the individual files contained in the folder.
  • Uploaded files automatically inherit/take on the permissions of the "direct" folder in which they are contained.
  • User permissions take precedence over group permissions. For example, a user with permissions that authorize deleting files will retain this permission even if his group does not have permissions that authorize deleting files.
  • Owner rights cannot be removed or changed. This protects the creator/owner.
  • When created, a new folder inherits the parent folder’s security and users.

Hopefully these tips help you in your current and future projects. You can find more information about permissions within the help section of Prolog WebSite, under Project Documents/Document Management Permissions.
