By Stephen Spagnoli, Meridian Technical Support Analyst
Have you ever wanted to make a data entry field in Prolog required? Or have it populate with a default value? Read on for a step by step walkthrough on Customizing Field Properties in Prolog 7.5
Customizing Field Properties in Prolog is a great way to personalize your Prolog experience. It allows you to make fields required that are normally optional, or have a reminder popup that a particular field must be completed, and much more.
The steps below will allow you to customize Field Properties within Prolog. You will need to be logged into Prolog as an Admin to access these features.
- Once you are logged in, click on the “Tools” menu, open “Preferences,” and select “Options”
- Select “Portfolio Specific Options” or if these Field Property settings will be project specific select “Project Specific Options’ Then select the “Field Properties” tab.
- The first dropdown at the top, “Display fields for,” allows you to select which module you would like to modify.
- Once you have the module selected you will see all the fields below that are available to be modified.
- To modify a field, click on the ellipsis* to bring up the properties of a given field.
- The default value box will allow you to specify a value that will automatically populate that field when a new record is created.
- Below you will see a checkbox for “Required.” This checkbox will control whether or not a field must have data in it to be saved. When “Enforced” is selected the record will not save without data being entered in the field. If the “Reminder only” is used, a message will pop up asking the user if they are sure they want to save the record without data entered.
- The “Log Activity” checkbox will enable logging for the field selected. This will only apply to changes made after this option is set ,; any changes made prior to this option being selected will not be logged. To view logs, open the record you would like to see the logs for. Select the “Tools” menu and click “Record Log.”
- Once you have finished customizing your field properties, all you have to do is click the “Apply Changes” button at the bottom.
- If you wish to reset your field property customizations back to default use the ‘Reset’ button located on the Field Properties tab. When using this button on the Project Specific Options tab, project specific settings are reset back to the portfolio default. When using this button on the Portfolio Specific Options tab, all customizations for this field are set back to the system defaults
Following the steps above allow you to customize field properties within Prolog with ease. For more information including how to customize field properties via right-click, please consult the Prolog Help system or contact our support department if you have any questions regarding this process.
