New Functionality and Fixes in Prolog 7.5
By William Atchison, Meridian Customer Support Center Manager

With the release of Prolog Application Suite 7.5 comes some new functionality and fixes. You may be asking yourself what is the best practice for upgrading my company to this new release so your users can take advantage of the new features. Please click the link below to read about how to safely and efficiently upgrade your databases, templates, and Prolog Manager.

Prolog Manager 7.5 did include some database structure changes to incorporate the new functionality. In order to avoid database corruption you should follow this procedure when upgrading. This procedure is taken from KB 7880 titled, “What is the Proper Procedure for Upgrading to Prolog 7.5?” This information is also in the version 7.5 Prolog Manager readme file.

FIRST, Backup all your databases. This can be done quickly in Prolog Administrator under database manual backup. You can select all your prolog databases to be backed up all at once. Do not upgrade without backing up. It is important.

Second, make a note of what build of Prolog Manager you are running before the upgrade. If you are running version 7.0 or earlier you need to do all of the steps below. If you are running version 7.0 SP1 or up to version 7.01 you can skip up to step “B”. If you are running version 7.2 or higher go straight to step “D”.

  • (Only start here if you are running version 7.0 or earlier) Begin by upgrading your Prolog Manager installation to version 7.0 SP1.
  • (Only start here if you are running version 7.0 SP1 or up to version 7.01) Next upgrade your Prolog Manager installation to version 7.2.
  • With 7.2 installed you will need to open your databases and templates so that they can upgrade to version 7.2. For your databases you can either log into Each database separately with Prolog Manager or use the upgrade database utility in Prolog Administrator (The utility is under the database menu in Prolog Administrator). If have custom templates that you use for database or project creation these need to be upgraded as well. For each template simply create a new project in version 7.2, and this process will upgrade your template for you. Please make sure this step is complete before moving to step “D”.
  • (Only start here if you are running 7.2 or higher) Upgrade your installation of Prolog Manager to version 7.5.
  • You will need to upgrade your databases to 7.5 by either opening Each database separately in Prolog Manager or use the upgrade database utility in Prolog Administrator (The utility is under the database menu in Prolog Administrator). You will need to upgrade any custom templates that you use to create new projects or databases. For each template simply create a new project in version 7.5, and this process will upgrade your template for you.

After following the steps above that apply to your situation you should be finished with the upgrade to version 7.5. Please contact technical support if you have any questions regarding our upgrade process.
