Product Tip of the Month - Prolog
Creating Temporary Licenses
By Charity Muse, Meridian’s Senior Analyst
Your Prolog Manager License Manager can create one temporary Named User license for Prolog Manager. This license enables you to work for five days at another site, such as a home or laptop computer. It is also useful for creating a temporary training environment.
To create a temporary license, you need the License Authorization Floppy Transfer disk you received with your purchased Prolog software. If you need to request a new one, please contact Meridian Sales at: sales@meridiansystems.com.
To create a temporary license:
- Launch License Manager. You will typically find it at Start > All Programs > Meridian Systems > Prolog Manager 7 > License Manager.
- On the Introduction tab, make sure you’re on a computer that holds a permanent license. If you are, the license number and type will be listed along with the number of users. The words “Unlimited licenses” will be next to this number.
If, instead of “Unlimited licenses,” you see “Registered to use other server’s license,” this means you are not on the computer with the permanent license. If this is the case, please contact your Prolog administrator for access to the computer that holds the permanent license.

- Under the Transfers tab, click the Temporary License tab.

- Insert the License Authorization Floppy Transfer disk into your floppy disk drive.
- Choose your floppy disk drive from the destination drive box.
- Click the Create License button. License Manager creates one five-day temporary Named User license on the License Authorization Floppy Transfer disk.
To Use the Temporary License:
- Ensure that the Location of Application to License box contains the path to which you want to transfer the licenses. This should be where Prolog Manager is installed on the local machine.
- Click the Transfers tab, and then the Floppy Transfer tab.
- Insert the License Authorization Floppy Transfer disk into your floppy drive.
- Select your floppy drive from the drop-down box. Click the Transfer In button. License Manager moves your license from the License Authorization Floppy Transfer disk to the installation.

Use Caution! This will overwrite any permanent license you may already have on the machine. Only do this to replace a temporary license that is expiring, or on an unlicensed machine.
When you have transferred the temporary license in successfully, your License Manager Introduction tab will show the number of users and days remaining.
