Mid-Market Construction Firms Increase Productivity and Revenue with Prolog Software
Meridian reseller PCI Group announces customers who are successfully managing workflow and increasing revenue with proven construction project management software
FOLSOM, Calif. (April 19, 2005) — Meridian Systems® and PCI Group announce successful implementations of Meridian’s project management software Prolog® Manager with three key construction firms: Continental Plumbing, Brown and Caldwell and Segue Construction. Representing the subcontractor, construction management and general contractor communities, these firms have increased productivity and revenue using Prolog.
Continental Plumbing, a northern California-based subcontractor, has realized a more than $4 million increase in revenue.
“Over the last two years we’ve increased revenue from $4 million to $8 million. But we haven’t added headcount; we’ve just managed information more effectively. Prolog has increased our efficiency two-fold and enabled us to double our annual revenue,” said Nathan Buckley, project administrator for Continental. “Subcontractors are unsure about making investments in project management software—fearing it will cost too much and won’t create ROI for smaller shops. But Continental Plumbing is proof that subs can use project management software to grow their businesses just like construction managers and general contractors,” finished Buckley.
One such construction manager using Prolog is Brown and Caldwell, Inc., based in Walnut Creek, Calif. “Like many companies involved in building major infrastructure projects, we relied on Excel and Word documents saved on individual desktops to manage our projects,” commented Jill Teplin, Brown and Caldwell project manager. “We needed to centralize our documents and enable our project managers to work more efficiently. We’re looking to Prolog to help us with day-to-day operations and overall management, eliminating duplicate data entry while providing a central resource for reporting and tracking of key performance indicators,” assessed Teplin.
As vice president for California-based, general contractor Segue Construction, Steve Grider turned to Prolog for similar results. “We build for non-profit organizations that can’t afford to go over budget or push out the schedule; they need us to build as quickly as possible with a keen eye on costs. In the past, we managed the projects utilizing excel and word documents. It did not provide the oversight and streamlined capability we now have with Prolog to ensure that costs are documented well and proactive resolution of construction issues are managed well. We began using Prolog in 2003. We’ve realized significant reductions in RFI-processing times and improved visibility into budget and cost tracking. For me and the other VPs, our Prolog investment has paid off, speeding our process to complete projects and enabling us to make sure project managers and superintendents are being proactive and controlling costs.”
Prolog is the AEC industry's most powerful desktop application suite, providing total project management control for construction and engineering organizations, mid- to large-sized business owners, and architecture firms. Featuring collaboration, purchasing management, cost control, document management and field administration, Prolog is a proven construction project management tool.
Continental Plumbing, Brown and Caldwell and Segue worked with PCI Group for software selection, implementation, customization and training. “Contractors of all sizes need to increase the number of jobs they can handle and the margin they can take in from those jobs,” said Gino Wideen, managing partner of PCI Group (a Meridian Authorized Solution Provider). “We continue to see Prolog selected because of its robust construction-specific functionality and because of our on-site custom consulting and training that we offer to support our clients’ technology decisions.”
