This approach combines best-of-breed practices from Project Management Institute with a phased deployment methodology. The premise of this approach is to break the project into phases—with each phase flowing through stages with specific quality gates and pre-defined milestones. In the diagram below, the red triangles represent the beginning of a new phase, with each iteration moving the project closer to completion. This method acknowledges and embraces the fact that defining requirements is an ongoing process—changing as users become more experienced with the product, and as business and technology factors affect project deliverables.
